Ships Ahoy!

On Wednesday 21st May, we were invited by Simonsen Chartering’s to their Annual Summer Get Together, held in Svenborg, Denmark. Simonsens are the owners of the vessels we charter to bring in thousands of tonnes of vegetable oil each month.

We had an incredible journey ahead of us starting at 6.30am in Northallerton where we had to catch a train across the Pennines to Manchester airport. We then had no time to mess around as it was through security and onto our next mode of transport, a flight to Copenhagen in Denmark. After a slightly bumpy flight we arrived safely in sunny Denmark ready to find our train to take us to Nyborg. Luckily the Danish trains were fairly easy to figure out (luxury compared to our rail network) and we were soon safely on our way, taking in the beautiful scenery en route.  Our final mode of transport for the day was by car to the picturesque town of Svenborg, followed by an evening of meeting and greeting the people who we work with each day, as well as new contacts along the way.  It was interesting to hear other clients shipping stories and the products that they move around the World, they thought the amount of products that we offered was incredible.

Thursday was the main event – breakfast in the fantastic setting of Simonsen’s head office followed by an afternoon of sailing on board the Havet (sea sickness tablets at the ready). We couldn’t have asked for a better day to go sailing … the weather was incredible, even our hosts were mightily impressed. Luckily for us the sea was calm, allowing for an enjoyable afternoon at sea, hoisting up the sails and learning to tie the ropes and no need for those sea sickness tablets!

To top a fun afternoon we were then whisked away to a fantastic restaurant in Nyborg – Lieffroy, for what can only be described as an amazing setting …. the forest, nature, beach and ocean all just a stone’s throw from the restaurant, such a perfect setting for the fine food that we enjoyed. After 8 courses of incredible food and wine, we could just about get out of our chairs! We would recommend a visit if you are ever in the area!

Over the three days, we managed to encounter various modes of transport. Denmark is such a beautiful county and our time there was spent with lovely people who made us feel very welcome.
