Cycle To Work Scheme – “Vive le Peloton”
Here at the Kerfoot Group we love a healthy workforce so we encourage our employees to get plenty of exercise. We are also just a little bit excited about the world famous bike race, The Tour de France coming to our doorstep in Yorkshire for the Grand Depart in 2014. So the People Division have introduced a Cycle to Work scheme as a fantastic benefit for our staff to help them “get on their bikes”!
The Cycle to Work scheme is a government initiative which allows employees to purchase a bike through a salary sacrifice scheme, thereby benefitting from tax savings on the cost of the bike and any accessories or equipment that they need. It is a fantastic way to spread the cost of such a big purchase and save some money too, which is very appealing to us Yorkshire folk!
Not only is cycling a fantastic way to get fit and healthy, lose weight and reduce your risk of heart disease, it is also a very green way to travel. As an environmentally aware company, getting staff to cycle to work instead of driving is an excellent way to reduce our impact on the environment. Cycling is also a great family activity to get out enjoying the countryside, which we are so lucky to have in abundance here in North Yorkshire.
The first 2 stages of next year’s ‘Le Tour’ will take in some of the most beautiful scenery in Britain, as well as some of the biggest hills to really test to the pro’s climbing skills. We hope that introducing the cycle to work scheme will mean our employees can follow some of these routes and experience what it is like to be a professional cyclist completing the toughest bike race in the world (perhaps without the hordes of fans screaming Allez Allez along the way)!
So now all of Kerfoot’s budding Bradleys (minus the side burns!) have no excuse for not getting out there and really embracing the cycling craze!
