Sleeping Rough for Charity
The Kerfoot Group has charitable giving at its core & one extremely important cause that we have supported is homelessness, particularly with young people. SASH (Safe & Sound Homes) is a charity that provides temporary accommodation for homeless young people in the homes of volunteers. Last year they provided 840 nights of accommodation across North Yorkshire & saw a 90% increase in demand for their services.
To raise funds & awareness, SASH organise regular Sleepouts, during which members of the public spend a night ‘sleeping rough’ with just a cardboard box & sleeping bag for shelter. The most recent Sleepout was in The Kerfoot Group’s home town, Northallerton, on the 2 March & our very own Commercial Director, Thomas Kerfoot, decided to brave the freezing March weather & take part.
After a pretty sleepless & very uncomfortable night in front of Northallerton Methodist Church, breakfast was served by Soupa Trooper volunteers, who provide a regular soup supper in Northallerton. The collection buckets were counted up & raised over £90. The Kerfoot Group’s donation of £100 will boost the total, as will generous donations from many other local & national companies.
Margaret Swann, the wife of Malcolm Swann (one of our operatives in Goole), also took part in another Sleepout event on the same weekend & was sponsored by Malcolm’s colleagues at the Kerfoot Packed Oils Factory.
These events make an incredible difference & The Kerfoot Group are proud to support this fantastic charity. Please get in touch if you would like to sponsor Thomas & Margaret’s efforts.
