Dan Howie The Kerfoot Group are very proud to be sponsoring Dan Howie on his cycle challenge for The Alzheimer’s Society, in memory of his Grandmother.  As if the challenge of cycling from Gibraltar to London was not enough for him in 2009 (photos attached), he has opted to cycle from Lands-End to John O’Groats in a miraculous four days!  We wish him a lot of luck, a lot of tailwind and hopefully very few punctures!

From Dan Howie:

It was incredibly kind of the Kerfoot Group to sponsor me so generously for our Lands End- John O'Groats cycle challenge. All proceeds raised are going to Alzheimer's Society to help with their fight against dementia. There are currently 700,000 people with dementia in the UK, with this figure set to rise to 1,000,000 by 2025. So your donation really is important and appreciated by everyone at Alzheimer's Society.

The average time people take to complete Lands End- John O'Groats (LE-JOG) is usually 2 weeks. Stupidly we have set ourselves the task of cycling the 900 miles in just 4 days. This will be an average of 225 miles a day (the equivalent of cycling from London - York each day for 4 days straight). An estimated 16-17 hours will be spent on the bikes each day. Bums will not be in a good state by the end!!!

Training has gone well with some large rides conquered. The largest to date was 260 miles from South London - Northallerton in 1 day. We also cycled from London to Wales and back over a weekend which Dan Howiewas a total of 420 miles. So hopefully we are in good shape for the real thing which starts on Monday 26th April, less than two weeks away!!This really is unchartered territory for us. We may have done some long rides, but never 225 miles every day for 4 days.

The world record for LE-JOG is 46 hours!! I have no idea how he did it so quickly, but our mind set is if he can do it in 2 days, then we have to do it in 4...fingers crossed.

Many thanks again for your support and I will be in touch in May to let you know how we got on.

Best wishes to everyone at the Kerfoot Group,

Dan Howie
