At the beginning of June, the Kerfoot team came together to take on the mammoth task of the Yorkshire Three Peaks challenge to raise money for Yorkshire Cancer Research. The 24-mile walk takes on the peaks of Pen-y-Ghent, Whernside and Ingleborough, each with an equally tough descent and all to be completed in less than 12 hours.

We’d crammed in various training feats to make sure we were physically and mentally prepared to take on the challenge, building up the miles and tackling difficult walks in picturesque locations such as Helvellyn and Nidderdale. The team even held trial walks across Pen-Y-Ghent and Ingleborough that would later form two thirds of the main challenge.

The event saw 31 members of the Kerfoot team set off to navigate the three highest peaks in Yorkshire, battling constant wind and rain to climb a total of 5,200ft. Equipped with several months of training behind them, 21 team members completed the 24 miles challenge well under the 12-hour target, finishing in less than 10 and a half hours – an amazing achievement!

We would like to say thank you for the support during training and on the day, from our very own Kerfoot support crew, to Lupine Adventure, the walking support team who ensured our walkers were safe, and Yorkshire Cancer Research, who came along with a lovely T6 campervan and gazebo to provide shelter and dish out supplies of much-needed hot drinks and sandwiches.

The trek didn’t feel like the June day we’d envisioned many months ago when we organised this charity challenge event, but the team powered through, and we couldn’t be prouder of our fearless ramblers – the torrential rain and occasional hailstones didn’t dampen the team’s spirit or enthusiasm!

The pain was worth it and we’re extremely proud to announce we have raised £4,154.00 of our £5,000 target, with funds still coming in – an incredible result which is testimony of the team’s commitment to such a fantastic cause. When we arranged this event, we wanted everyone taking part to feel a sense of achievement even if they did not make it all the way around the 24-mile route. We’re honoured to know we have such dedicated individuals as part of our team who took the time and effort to raise money for a charity close to our hearts.

We are committed to becoming an employer of choice and to our corporate social responsibility. As such, we have connected with a local charity, Yorkshire Cancer Research, as our charitable partner. Throughout 2019, we will dedicate our overall annual fundraising efforts to the charity and have a number of events being planned this year involving our employees.
