Core Responsibilities

  • Champion the Company and Avril Group target of Zero accidents by instilling a belief and ways of working across the organisation that demonstrates Health, Safety and Wellbeing are our number 1 priority, where everyone understands their responsibilities and duties and is committed to fulfilling them.
  • Work closely and collaboratively with site Managers and teams to improve and embed proactive H&S behaviours and actions.
  • Be the face of H&S at Kerfoot demonstrating our Values of Respect, Boldness and Performance.
  • Act as an advisor for H&S related issues for Directors, Managers and Employees on site.
  • Provide clear and appropriate communication to the wider business and key stakeholders related to H&S matters.
  • Liaise and be the first point of contact to external enforcing bodies and providers including contractors ensuring appropriate RA’s and Method statements are provided for any work carried out on site.
  • Ensure that the Health and Safety Policies and procedures are reviewed at least annually or when there is a change in legislation.
  • Demonstrate a high level of awareness associated with the management of H&S risks, carry out risk assessments, present to the relevant manager and follow up any actions resulting from these.
  • Investigate accidents, incidents and near misses, make recommendations to eliminate issues through root cause analysis and make improvements in the future, recording data to identify trends, issues and patterns.
  • Collate weekly H&S KPI information and Site Safety Visit (SSV) and communicate to the HR Director and Avril H&S representative, displaying relevant dashboard information on H&S notice boards
  • To ensure that effective fire & first aid safety management arrangements are in place for all areas in the organisation.
  • Developing and ensuring delivery of relevant H&S training programs to meet site business needs including maintaining accurate and visible records of all trained employees.
  • Developing and championing site and area H&S initiatives and promote CI in site H&S performance
  • Ensure appropriate audits are in place and carried out to ensure adherence to policy and legislation.
  • Maintain the Company H&S Handbook and H&S Induction in accordance with legislative updates and any company or site changes along with company wide information and communication in relation to H&S
  • Ensure via site teams that all new employee receive an H&S induction on day one and refreshers are carried out as appropriate
  • Ensure process and controls are in place with site team to maintain the correct PPE for all tasks, ensuring suitability is reviewed and complies with relevant legislative.
  • Co-ordinate the work of the Health and Safety Committee ensuring it meets regularly, identifies and reviews all relevant Health and Safety matters, minutes are taken and actions followed through.
  • Efficiently assist the HR Director with the implementation of services, policies and programs throughout the Company in relation to H&S. Supporting project teams in the delivery and control of new processes and installations.

 Skills & Experience Required

  • In depth knowledge and understanding of HSE legislation, ability to interpret policies and procedures and employment law to give sound advice to managers ideally in a multi-site environment.
  • Holder of recognised qualification, NEBOSH or equivalent.
  • Experience of managing external enforcing authorities
  • Experience of working in a manufacturing environment
  • Practical and professional with a hands on approach
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, a team player with a flexible approach
  • Confident IT skills, proven record of using all Microsoft programmes
  • Exemplary organisational skills, able to meet tight deadlines and prioritise work, remaining calm under pressure
  • Proactive, positive, enthusiastic with a can do attitude.
